Opiod overdose survivor helps others recover from substance use addiction
YAKIMA, WA – After ten years of having a substance use disorder, Kristen Mead celebrates five years sober. She is now using her experience to help others through their recovery journeys with Peer Support at Triumph Treatment Services.
“Kristen is not a random example of like the one percent that make it, it’s possible for anyone,” said Adkison, “if you’re done, there are people ready to help you.”
August 31 is Overdose Awareness Day
For too many of us, this is a day of grieving for those we have lost, remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose. The United States is in the midst of a drug overdose epidemic. Of the 61,311 preventable drug overdoses in the country in 2017, more than 43,000 involved opioids. Source.
But this day is also a day of hope, in recognition of the tens of thousands of lives that have been saved from overdose, and a call to further action to end the overdose crisis. Hear the stories of real people who are working on their addictions here at Triumph.
