Each day, a Peer Specialist spends their time meeting people where they are at. Sometimes that looks like helping them ride the bus for the first time, going to the library together to write a resume, attending an important court date with them, meeting them on their last day of inpatient treatment to accompany them home, and other endless examples.


What is a Peer Support?
A Peer Support Specialist walks alongside people on their recovery journey through mental health or substance use disorder services. Certified through the state of Washington, a Peer Support is an individual with lived experience and formal training who provide unique and valuable support to help peers identify goals, dream about a better future, and create a roadmap for how to get there.

2024 Peer Services Provided

The majority services provided includes resources which may look like helping the peers obtain their ID or connecting them to organizations to help find housing and funding for move in costs. Resources may also look like resume building, employment and school search, or finding the right support groups. Peers are also supported through transportation with getting to and from treatment, important meetings, or even just the grocery store. Peer Supports can also provide basic neccessities like hygiene products, food, and clothing through a “Peer Pantry”.
Peers in Action
Our Peer Supports work with individuals currently enrolled in Triumph programs, with the community through outreach in Yakima; Union Gap; Wapato; and Toppenish, and with those in need through a walk-in basis. In 2024, our Peer Supports focused on supporting clients in Triumph programs, labeled “Current Peers” above.

As our Peer Support Program grows, we will expand our engagement in the community through street outreach. This allows Peer Supports to build rapport within the community, providng resources where needed and meeting people where they are at.
The services provided can include resources toward housing, funding, food banks, AA/NA meetings, steps on applying for state cash or food assistance, or helping those seeking Substance Use or Mental Health services.
